Situated just off the High Street, Lyle’s is located in the Tea Building in Shoreditch. There is a mid-century modern feel to the space which is presumably intentional, to reflect the era of the Tea Building itself.
As you enter there is an abundance of natural light flowing through the space with a somewhat simple and calming feel. The floors are natural concrete in contrast to the timber tables and chairs.
The menu at Lyle’s changes daily and is an all-day restaurant open six days a week (closed Sundays). As we wanted to order à la carte we opted for a Saturday lunch.
To start we had the Beef Broth & Spring Vegetables which was divine. We also ordered the Peas, Lovage, Ticklemore & Sweet Cicely which is a deliciously vibrantly coloured salad of sweet peas, herbs and goats cheese with a mint dressing.
To follow we shared the Pollack, Jersey Royals & Whey Butter. The foam whey butter was mouth watering!
As we sat by the open kitchen, we were able to enjoy the smells, sounds and sights of the chefs hard at work while enjoying a glass of red.
For dessert we chose the Coffee meringue & Caramel Ice Cream which was exquisite with melt in your mouth ice cream in contrast with the rough texture of the coffee grind. We also ordered the Treacle tart which was served with a tasty although subtly flavoured ice cream.
All in all, the coffee meringue and the beef broth were our favourites on the day. We hope to return again soon and can’t wait to see what’s on the menu!
